Iron Man 3 Movie Review (mild spoilers)

So I went an saw Iron Man 3 last night, and in my opinion it's kind of a mixed bag.  What I mean by this is for the casual movie goer it is gonna be a great exp (and one they should see in 3d) but as comic geeks we have a more discerning taste when it comes to these things. Some spoilers are ahead so if you want to be surprised quit reading now.

Ok my biggest problem with the film it that it takes one of the coolest classic Iron Man Villains, the Mandarin,  and essentially plays him for a joke. There is no mention of his mighty rings or that he can take on Iron Man toe to toe with no problem. Instead he becomes a drunk British stage actor. With  a heavy weight like Ben Kingsley  in this role I expected alot more. The other big bads in the movie, the extremis project, comes across as kinda hokey (although it was good to see AIM mentioned and become part of the cinematic universe).

So now the good Robert Downey Jr is Tony Stark.... there should never be any other. He owns the role at this point and as always does a great job as the marvel universe's favorite playboy.  Happy and Pepper are also on board for this thrill ride as is the great Don Cheadle as James Rose/WarMachine also excellent as always. The direction in this one tends to go more toward comedy than the other two films which I don't think is a bad thing. That being said I still prefer the direction of the first two films.

All in all purists may be a little upset but this movie is gonna be the blockbuster to start the summer that Marvel and Disney wanted, and while I have read the rumors that this may be Downey's last run in the armor, I for one hope it's untrue because in my mind he is the one true Iron Man.
