Daredevil on Netflix, Marvel hits another homerun (spoiler free)

So the time has finally come, Daredevil has hit netflix after what seems to be a long wait.  I can honestly say it was worth it. Daredevil takes the gritty side of the Marvel universe, the underworld as it were, and brings it to the screen. The interesting thing about how this is handled is that unlike the terrible Ben Affleck Daredevil we all remember this one embraces it's seedy side. It is gritty and dirty but seems much more anchored in a real world mentality than something like the Avengers.
Now with all that said Daredevil is not family friendly, it has language and violence as well as some surprisingly adult themes that won't surprise any fan of the original comic, but will certainly be too much for many younger viewers.
So the question then becomes is this show any good. I can say with out a doubt yes. It takes pieces from several of the more well known Daredevil stories (including my personal favorite Guardian Devil) and combines them into a narrative that blends a vigilante tale with what many would say is the first street level superhero. I for one am glad to see this taking a darker turn than Guradians of the Galaxy or Avengers and it certainly gives me hope for the rest of the upcoming Netflix Marvel offerings coming next year.

News and Updates

So this is starting to move along, this morning we are going to look for possible locations for the store.  There will be a kickstarter starting soon to help bring this project to a reality with hopes to get it started in the next couple of months. The store (now called Phantom Planet) will start it's life as a game store (video games, card games, tabletop, wargames, and rpg's) but will have a small area for back issue comics and some graphic novels/manga. As business builds I will be adding new comics to the mix as well.  The store will also have systems in house for rental to play the hottest video games before you buy, we will be doing used and new games.  Expect tournaments for ccg's , wargames, video games, rpgs, and tabletop games. As well as games nights where groups can run their games in house. We also plan to stock basic snacks and drinks for consumption as well.
To sum this up, yes we are progressing and yes the kickstarter should be live in a few days (I will post on here when it is) We are going to be the hub for all things geek related on the Obx and you guys can help us get there.  The rewards I will be offering are gonna be unique to say the least. So get your dice and controllers ready everyone, Gaming is coming to the Outer Banks.

So for those who have been faithful to this blog , I am checking in and letting you know that we are still working hard on getting the shop open, there have been some setbacks along the way but it is our hope that financing will come together this year to make this long standing dream a reality here on the beach. We are locally selling cards and comics via the net, and are ramping up our vintage video game side as well. So as always if we can help you find anything let us know, and  if anyone reading this wants to become an investor in said shop let us know

Obx Magic the Gathering and comics

Ok here is the update you all have been asking for, my shop was supposed to be open by now but financing has fallen through, so while I search for more investors I have decided to go ahead and try something else. I am currently going to be selling Mtg singles locally as well as setting up drafts of the new sets coming out. The good news is my prices are cheap, the bad news is that any games I host will not be DCI sanctioned for the time being (they require a brick and mortar storefront). So if you need singles or are interested in drafting or a weekly or bi-weekly game with prizes contact by leaving comments here with your email or by emailing me direct at nerdcoreplaya@gmail.com. As a side note if there are any serious investors who want to invest in a shop let me know as well, I have 15 yrs exp in the bus.

Console wars 2013 who wins ps4 or xbox1

So the specs just came screaming out on the X-box 1 and I thought I would give you my loyal readers a heads up in case you haven't heard yet.

Both systems seem to have near Identical hardware and software support, (exclusive titles not withstanding). The big kicker for me and the epic fail on the part of Microsoft is gonna be their always on camera and internet connection through the Kinect, which is part of every Xbox 1. Not only is this akin to 24 hr surveillance in your own home but it will be required for you to maintain an online connection to play your games. I don't know about you but for this gamer that is a huge issue. For one I refuse to have any corporate surveillance device in my house for any reason. (not that I have anything to hide, but I enjoy my privacy) 2nd the fact that I won't be able to purchase or sell used games for my new system is a slap in the face. Essentially by signing up for the new Xbox 1 I am entering into a bad lease agreement with really shitty terms.  Now there are a lot of questions about the ps4 also but none of my major issues with the XBOX 1 seem to be going cross platform.

So my verdict is this, unless changes are made quickly Xbox 1 is dead in the water, (It just hasn't realized it yet) and ps4 or WII U win the console war.
